Bridging US and Japan: One Story at a Time
Hi, we are the Japanese Cultural Association of Maine (JCAM)! We are inspired by the deep connections with Japan we find here in this beautiful state of Maine. Whether through the arts, business, student exchanges, or culture, we are captivated by the personal stories of how Maine and Japan have impacted and enriched lives.
When friends Yuko and Alex kept hearing about the remarkable stories of connections between Maine and Japan, they realized each story was too special to keep to themselves. Thus came the idea of this website and the newsletter, “Bridging US and Japan in Maine: One Story at a Time.” At JCAM, we strive to share these heartwarming stories and experiences to inspire others and bring together more Maine-Japan enthusiasts in our community.
Designed by Kasei, a senior at Bowdoin College, JCAM’s logo features Maine’s iconic pine tree and blue star alongside Japan’s sakura blossom. Together, these elements form a smiling arc that symbolizes the warm and enduring connection between Maine and Japan—a bond rooted in our hearts. This spirit of friendship and shared culture drives JCAM’s mission to build a more inclusive and closely connected community.
“It is a story of friendship and connection and our shared love of Maine and Japan.”
— Yuko & Alex, Co-Founders, The Japanese Cultural Association of Maine
